Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), jointly owned by Star Cruises and Apollo Management, is one of the oldest cruise lines in the world, with more than 40 years of cruising. To take advantage of the growing market for pleasure cruises, NCL embarked on an expansion programme to develop their brands and expand their fleet. Innovative concepts such as freestyle cruising, internet cafes and the youngest fleet in the industry required an innovative crew manning solution to manage the large numbers of crew required to keep the fleet operational. NCL adopted MAPS Maritime Suite as a best of breed solution and were fully up-and-running in just nine months. This was a major achievement for a fleet wide crew management system and now allows them to focus on cost control efficiencies through the use of MAPS add-on modules such as Travel Administration and Crew Berth management.
