Four NHS providers in south west London have collaborated to create the first ever trust-led regional bank of nurses, doctors and AHPs. They have selected CloudStaff from Allocate Software to operate the bank and expect the solution to significantly reduce their reliance on expensive agency staff. The bank will be used to fill shifts by developing a wider pool of NHS staff across a region that are willing, skilled and available to work extra shifts.

The South West London Provider Collaborative will be using Allocate Software’s CloudStaff regional bank software to create a bank where nurses, doctors, AHPs and others can gain access to unfilled shifts from across the local health economy.

Recent research has shown that flexibility is a major motivating factor influencing why staff take extra shifts via agencies rather than direct with the NHS. Today staff are often tied to one organisation and if they wish to work across multiple organisations they are left with no option but to work for agencies which means trusts pay more.

CloudStaff will be used to offer greater choice and flexibility to staff. CloudStaff is a ground-breaking platform for interconnecting HealthRoster and HealthMedics systems already used by the four organisations in the cluster. It will hold the intelligence about staff skills, existing working patterns and availability. Staff will be notified and have access to shifts via an app and can define preferences meaning unfilled shifts are offered in a targeted manner, to a wider pool of staff and with more notice.

Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the organisations in the South West London Provider Collaborative, Daniel Elkeles, Chief Executive said: “We believe the regional bank is good for staff and good for patient care in our region. It will offer staff more choice and flexibility. Patients will benefit from more care being delivered by local staff that choose to work in our region and we will all benefit by spending less on agency fees. I’m pleased we have selected CloudStaff and Allocate as our technology partner to deliver this exciting and important evolution of workforce management.”

Mil Milojevic, Director of Product Management at Allocate Software, said: “We are very pleased to have been selected by South West London cluster. CloudStaff is uniquely placed to help organisations leverage their existing investment in e-Rostering and temporary staffing to create truly live, dynamic shared banks that attract staff and reduce agency reliance.”
